Dear Parents,
Welcome to R.F. Bumpus Middle School. Sixth grade is looking forward to an exciting and fun filled year of learning with your child. This can be a transitional year between elementary school and middle school. During the first few weeks of this transition, it is important that your child becomes a responsible and self-reliant learner. It is our goal to equip your child with the proper tools, materials, guidelines and knowledge that he/she needs to accomplish this task. We appreciate your support and encouragement during a very important and challenging academic year.
It is a common misconception that sixth grade is the time for parents to “pull back” and reduce homework monitoring; however, this is not the case for such a critical transitional year. We strongly suggest that parents monitor student’s work daily, especially for the first few weeks. We encourage parents to check agendas for nightly assignments as well as the contents of the backpack. You can compare written agendas to our online agenda found here on the team blog. Check our team blog daily/nightly.
We want their sixth grade to be a rewarding and experience for our students as well as you! Therefore, we will need your support in encouraging your child to follow the rules and guidelines outlined in the in the Hoover City School Code of Conduct and Review The Bumpus Way with your students.
We are excited to have your child as part of our team! We look forward to meeting and working with you to make this year successful for your child and to prepare them for their journey. If you should have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. We look forward to meeting you at our Open House on Monday, August 20th.
Sincerely,
Ashlyn Etheredge Carol Lollar Cindy Simmons Matthew Sutter
