Parents- I hope you have heard lots of stories about the book, The Wednesday Wars, we just completed in Language Arts. The students really seemed to like it! To celebrate we are having a mini "Wednesday Wars Day" on Monday, March 18th.
We will celebrate three major symbols/themes from the book: "The Vietnam War, Cream puffs, and Shakespeare."
Our plan is for students to hear from volunteer speakers during their Language Arts class period. These speakers are Veteran's and/or have great knowledge about the Vietnam War. They will speak on topics such as what life was like fighting the war, as well as life at home for citizens during that time. During our lunch/eta period, students will pick up their food from the cafeteria and bring it back to homeroom, where we will eat together while watching a child-friendly animated version of Shakespeare's play The Tempest. For a treat, we will be providing the students with the tasty little cream puffs they have read so much about in the book.
If there is any part of this day your student needs to "opt out" of for any reason please let me know as soon as possible and I will arrange an alternative for them- I know food allergies are a major issue for some and we want to make sure we have taken care of that before Monday.
HELP...We also are in need of a few more guest speakers! We would like for the speaker to commit to at least one-45 minute time period. If there are any relatives with experience during the Vietnam War that would be willing to speak to our students, please send me a phone number so I may reach out to them! Thanks everyone!
